St. John’s Staff

Pastor Ralph Mineo

Supply-Plus Pastor

Peace be with you! I’m Pastor Ralph Mineo, current “Supply-Plus Pastor” at St. John’s. I’m here primarily to lead worship and preach on weekends. I’m blessed to be part of the music ministry. I provide pastoral care as needed. I love to teach, especially leading Communion Retreats and a Membership Class titled, “What It Means to Be a Lutheran.” I also provide leadership for “Youth Sunday.”

I began my ministry as a Lutheran Pastor in 1980 in Toledo, Ohio. Originally from this area (Union City, Edinboro, and Erie), I was ordained in the Roman Catholic Church in 1977, leaving to marry the love of my life, Jo Mineo, in October 1978. For those who know us, you understand what it means when I refer to us as “The Ralph and Jo Show.”

I served four congregations in the Northwestern Ohio Synod, retiring from full time ministry in November 2020. After Jo and I moved back home to Harborcreek, I began serving as Supply Pastor in the Northwestern Pennsylvania Synod in May 2022. After preaching and leading worship at a dozen congregations, Jo and I are now settled in for a while as St. John’s.

As a time of transition, before a new pastor is called here, I’m blessed and honored to be part of this season in the life of St. John’s. Though not officially the “Called Pastor,” I believe in my heart and soul that I’m called, by the grace of God, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to be here as the pastor of St. John’s. We are indeed “Pastor and People” together. Join us! Let’s make this time of transition a time for growing closer to God in Christ, and a time to do the work the church is called to do!

Rachel Tilburg

Office Administrator

Hi my name is Rachel Tilburg. I’ve been the office administrator for St. John’s for a little over a year now. Outside of work I am a busy wife and mom. My husband, Greg, and I have two teenage boys, Jacob and Ethan. I also enjoy singing in our church choir and playing in our handbell choir (my family makes up nearly half of the bell choir as all four of us play!). I also enjoy baking, knitting, crocheting, and canning the abundance of produce that comes from our garden each summer.

As for my family, my husband, Greg, is a construction project manager for a local construction company. He was instrumental in the rebuilding of our church (Girard Presbyterian) after a fire destroyed it 5 years ago. Jacob, our oldest son, is involved in the McDowell Marching Band, Erie Junior Philharmonic, and school media club. He plans on attending college for music production when he graduates in 2025. Ethan, our youngest son, is involved in his middle school orchestra, Lego Robotics League, and Erie Junior Philharmonic. He enjoys all things computer & technology.

Kathrine Swanson

Organist & Choir Director

Kathy has been the organ pilot at St. Johns since 1999. She has a B.A. in Music from Mercyhurst College, a B.S. in Science from Gannon University, and a M.Ed. in Natural & Environmental Science from Gannon University. She is an officer and board member of the Erie Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and the Erie Music Teachers Association. Not only does she play the organ, Kathy directs both the Choir and Bell Choir.

Joe Gonzalez

Sexton

We thought this place had magic fairies or gnomes or something that kept it so spotless – but then someone spotted Joe doing the work. It was as exciting as spotting Bigfoot… only smaller. He is so quiet and stealthy that sometimes the church mouse doesn’t even notice him until Joe politely asks the mouse to move so that he can clean where the mouse is standing. (The church mouse has since named Joe “the church ninja.”)

Scot Zoumbaris

Web Dude

My name is Scot and I’m a retired Firefighter/Paramedic. I’ve been involved with Web Design and Online Media for many years, and I look forward to helping St. John’s move forward online as well as offline in the real world. I have been married to Julie and we have 3 grown children and a spoiled Shih Tzu. Julie and I have been members at St. John’s in Erie for 2 years.
